What to Wear Holiday Edition – Me!

The holidays are right around the corner and I’m already thinking about my little family’s portrait this year. So I thought I’d take my fellow Moms along as I shop for our holiday portrait wardrobe.  I could shop my own closet but where’s the fun in that?  In all seriousness, hopefully this helps a few of you out in selecting your own family’s wardrobe.

I’m going to shop for my outfit FIRST. As tempting as it may be to shop for Miss J I’m going to hold off.  As I’ve always said, Moms – select your outfit first. If you feel comfortable and confident in your outfit then everyone elses will easily fall into place.  Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way think about the location of your photos and the mood you want to invoke.  Want urban, city-chic? Downtown Houston and a cute cocktail dress with heels will work! What something more rustic? Pair any city park with jeans and a cute top.

I have yet to decide on the location of our family photos but here are a few outfits I’m thinking about:

Notice the layering, fit and pops of color? I also like that I can add a blazer or denim jacket to the first two looks if it’s brisk outside.  I’m a shorty so I would also wear some sort of heeled shoe – probably cute boots.

Layering clothing and accessories will give images more interest not to mention hide any “problem spots.”  I also like that the sweaters and top are loose and comfortable but by pairing them with a belt and cardigan it’ll give the look shape or silhouette. In pictures, loose tops and pants can easily make you look 10lbs heavier or even worse – pregnant when you’re not. Yikes!

Having not tried any of these outfits on yet I don’t know if they’ll suit me but I’ll keep you updated! Have any questions? Please leave a comment below.
